37 confirmed dead in plane crash

KARACHI: A passenger plane with nearly 100 people on board crashed in a residential area of Karachi city, killing at least 37 people and wounding many others, official sources said.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane was close to landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport when the unfortunate incident occurred. Spokeswoman of Sindh Health Department Meeran Yousuf said at least 37 people have died and several others are wounded.

Head of Accident and Emergency Department Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Dr Seemin Jamali confirmed that at least 19 dead bodies were brought to her hospital so far out of them three were identified. Around six injured were under treatment in the hospital.

Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital Karachi, Dr Khadim Hussain Qureshi while talking to PPI, said 18 dead bodies and three injured have been shifted to his hospital so far. Some dead bodies and injured were shifted to the private sector hospitals of the city, said the sources.
