Sindh Information Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has announced the launch of 500 electric buses in Karachi and Hyderabad, a significant step towards sustainable urban transport. This project aims to make public transport affordable and environmentally friendly, which will help reduce air pollution.
This project will be completed in phases, which includes modern bus depots, charging stations, and smart systems for fare collection and monitoring. This development will not only improve the passenger experience but also set a new standard for urban mobility.
Furthermore, the elevated expressway project from Karachi Port to Qayyumabad has also been approved. This 16.5-kilometer-long expressway is for heavy vehicles, aiming to connect the port to the Senator Taj Haider Interchange, to keep traffic flowing and improve road and port efficiency.
To combat climate change, the government has initiated a plan to establish riverine forests covering 41,000 hectares in Jamshoro and Matiari, with the aim of reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.
The Sindh government is also promoting private sector collaboration in the agriculture and food processing sectors, and feasibility studies are underway for a tomato cluster processing plant in Thatta, while rice and wheat machinery projects are also in progress across the province. These measures are part of a strategy to enhance agricultural productivity through the use of modern technology.
