Pakistan Customs Seizes Marijuana Worth Rs366 Million

Pakistan Customs has intercepted 12 kilograms of marijuana concealed inside parcels arriving from Thailand through the international postal system, foiling an alleged smuggling attempt and seizing narcotics valued at approximately Rs366.2 million, officials said on Tuesday.

The seizure was made during routine scanning operations at the International Mail Office (IMO) in Karachi, where customs authorities identified suspicious consignments originating from Bangkok. The two parcels had been declared as containing plastic car toys, Lego sets, model kit paper and wooden rocks.

Following the initial screening, Preventive Officer Zahid Hussain conducted a thorough physical inspection of the consignments. The examination uncovered 12 kilograms of marijuana ingeniously concealed inside plastic toy boxes. The narcotics were recovered from two separate parcels weighing 7 kilograms and 5 kilograms, respectively.

The confiscated drugs, estimated to have a market value of Rs. 366.2 million, were subsequently handed over to the Directorate of Enforcement and Compliance (Headquarters) in Karachi for further legal action.

Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR), while investigations are in progress to trace those responsible for the attempted smuggling and dismantle the network behind the operation.

Customs officials said the successful operation underscored the department’s vigilance, professionalism and operational preparedness in preventing narcotics trafficking through international logistics channels. They added that Pakistan Customs would continue to strengthen intelligence-led enforcement efforts and ensure strict implementation of customs laws to safeguard national security and public safety.
