LARKANA: Malala Day was celebrated in Larkana by Development through Empowerment for Sustainable Solutions Initiative (DESSI) International, a United Nations ECOSOC accredited civil society organization that focuses on empowering women.
Different documentaries and presentations on Malala’s life were presented to the audience at the event. Aimen Imtiaz delivered the speech on the importance of education, particularly of the girls. She said that July 22 is an important day in global activism to acknowledge the struggle of the global icon Malala Yousafzai. She broke the norm and rose to prominence at a young age advocating for human rights, particularly the right of women to have an education.
Aimen said that every girl has the right to get education at all levels, so all parents and guardians of girls should make sure that their daughters, wives, and sisters had access to this basic right for their sustainable empowerment.
Imtiaz Ahmed, Executive Director of DESSI International, said that there was no more such room of dominance over the girls in the society and girls must stand for their rights of education, marriage and living by their own will.
Malala Day 2022 is also a reminder of the courageous Malala Yousafzai who at a young age stood up against Taliban forces. She was shot as she protested against Talibani forces for stopping young girls from going to school. Even after the attack, the young activist refused to stay home and raise her voice for the education being provided to the young girls. Kalsoom Soomro said that parents of all girls must understand that daughters and sisters are their honor and future generation.
