Karachi: In a recent announcement, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab unveiled plans for a series of new development projects in the city, particularly focusing on the Korangi district. Highlighting the challenges faced by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the area where it has not traditionally won seats, the mayor disclosed that substantial funds have been earmarked for six new projects, including a bridge on the Korangi Causeway, expected to open later this year.
According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the mayor emphasized the PPP’s commitment to fulfilling its manifesto promises and countering misinformation on social media. Wahab underscored efforts to visibly demonstrate the party’s work, noting that projects are being executed under the PPP’s symbol, “teer” (arrow).
Speaking at the inauguration of various development projects in Korangi, Wahab was joined by key figures including Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and other city leaders. The mayor reiterated the PPP’s focus on public service, detailing the presence of both PPP and PTI City Council members in the area.
Projects in Korangi include the construction of four new culverts, enhancement of 20,000 feet of underground sewage lines, and repair of 8,000 feet of water pipelines. Additionally, 162,000 square feet of Tuff Pure tiles have been installed, with road carpeting done where necessary to ease local transportation.
Mayor Wahab highlighted the anticipated benefits of the new Korangi Causeway Bridge and the extended eight-lane bridge over Korangi Creek. He also mentioned the impending completion of renovations on the Murghi Khana Bridge, enhancing connectivity to Port Qasim and LATI.
Addressing criticisms, Wahab asserted that the PPP’s actions speak to its dedication to Karachi’s residents. On political matters, he clarified that legal processes are required for the release of Imran Khan and urged unity for the city’s betterment.
