Thirteen officials, including Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghaffar Chandio and the Assistant Superintendent, have been suspended following a firing incident at the Khairpur Central Jail. Chandio has been ordered to immediately report to the Central Police Office (CPO).
The suspensions also include the officer on duty, two head constables, and seven constables present at the time of the incident.
IG Prisons Fida Hussain Mastoi has formed an inquiry committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the firing incident and has demanded an immediate report. He confirmed that disciplinary action will be taken against those responsible for any negligence.
One prisoner was killed and two others were seriously injured in the incident at Khairpur Central Jail yesterday. The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Khairpur.
The incident has raised concerns about jail security, prompting reactions from district, provincial, and prison authorities. Social, political, and legal circles in Khairpur have condemned the incident, calling it an administrative failure.
