Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced a historic Rs1.018 trillion development budget for 2025-26, with an emphasis on improving the lives of Sindh’s residents. Memon termed the financial plan a continuation of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s citizen-centric policies, reflecting the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari. He emphasized that this substantial allocation demonstrates the government’s commitment to practical action rather than mere rhetoric.
The budget addresses public needs and long-standing concerns through key development initiatives. Each divisional headquarters-Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad-will receive a Rs7 billion development package. These funds will improve road infrastructure, water supply, sanitation, education, healthcare, and other essential civic services.
Major infrastructure projects in Karachi include the construction of the Korangi Causeway Bridge, the expansion of Shahrah-e-Faisal, and extending the scope of the Safe City project. Water resource management is another priority, with Rs3.1 billion allocated for the rehabilitation of the Hub Canal and Rs2 billion for the Shahdadkot water supply program. Karachi will also benefit from a 5 MGD seawater desalination plant and the TP-4 sewerage treatment plant, developed in collaboration with international institutions.
The agriculture sector will receive support through a Rs33 billion package encompassing mechanization, drip irrigation systems, and the establishment of horticulture clusters. Financial assistance will be provided to 200,000 farmers.
The Sindh Peoples Housing Scheme aims to construct 2.1 million houses for flood-affected individuals, with ownership rights granted to empower women. Furthermore, Rs21.7 billion has been allocated for the support and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
Of the total 3,642 projects, 3,161 are ongoing, while 481 are new projects. Rs119.5 billion has been earmarked for special development initiatives.
