The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority sealed a restaurant in Muzaffarabad over serious hygiene and sanitation violations during a widespread inspection campaign against food establishments across the city. The operation, which utilized a mobile food testing laboratory, focused on analyzing the quality and safety of milk, yogurt, and other consumables.
The inspection encompassed areas of Upper Chattar, Lower Chattar, Domel, and Upper Adda, covering hotels, burger outlets, milk vendors, and bakeries. Authorities collected samples of milk, cooking oil, and water using the mobile lab to detect any hazardous substances and verify adherence to quality standards. The move demonstrates the authority’s commitment to ensuring the availability of safe and healthy food for residents.
In addition to the restaurant closure, several businesses were fined and issued warnings for not complying with the food authority’s standard operating procedures. District Food Controller, Abrar Ahmed Mir, affirmed that providing food that meets hygiene standards is the organization’s top priority. He stressed that public well-being will not be compromised. Mr. Mir urged vendors to sell only registered food products and warned that operations against unregistered, unhealthy goods, and unhygienic practices will continue. Ongoing inspections and quality assessments will be enforced to curb adulteration.
