Pakistan and Ethiopia are set to collaborate on eco-conscious urban development, following a meeting between Ethiopian Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The discussion centered on sustainable urban management, tree planting initiatives, and environmentally friendly urban design.
Randhawa shared the CDA”s current projects and its plan to make Islamabad a modern, inclusive, and sustainable city. Inspired by Addis Ababa’s Green Corridor Project, Ambassador Beker suggested Ethiopia’s involvement in Islamabad’s Margalla Hills reforestation program. Randhawa welcomed the idea and announced the allocation of land for an ‘Ethiopia-Pakistan Fraternity Park.’
The officials also explored a sister-city partnership between Islamabad and Addis Ababa to foster cultural exchange, interpersonal connections, and cooperation in areas like municipal administration, riverbank restoration, and sustainable urban solutions. Ambassador Beker commended the CDA’s work under Randhawa and expressed Ethiopia”s desire for increased cooperation on sustainable infrastructure and eco-friendly urban expansion.
Both nations agreed to pursue smart city technologies, urban greening, and capacity development through institutional connections and technical exchanges, solidifying their commitment to practical cooperation through continued engagement.
