French Consul General in Karachi, Alexis Chahtahtinsky, paid homage to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto during his visit to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, and lauded their contributions to Pakistan-France relations and global leadership. This was part of a broader cultural and diplomatic engagement in Sindh, which also included a meeting with Sindh Assembly Speaker, Syed Owais Qadir Shah.
During his first official visit to the Sindh Assembly building, Chahtahtinsky congratulated Pakistan on its 78th Independence Day. He spoke of his recent visits to key historical and cultural sites in the province, including Sehwan Sharif, Moenjodaro, Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, and Sukkur Barrage.
Speaker Shah provided an overview of the assembly’s historical significance, highlighting pre-partition sessions and its role in the transfer of power in 1947. He also mentioned the assembly’s recent activities, including a special session for National Minority Day and Independence Day celebrations.
Shah invited the Consul General to visit the “Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees,” a large-scale housing project initiated by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for displaced people.
The meeting concluded with a visit to the old assembly hall, where the transfer of power took place. Chahtahtinsky was presented with the assembly’s “Legacy Shield,” a Sindhi Ajrak, and a Sindhi Topi. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening ties and mutual cooperation between Pakistan and France.
