Pakistan And UK Pledge Legal Education Partnership Following High-Level Talks

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar met today with Member of the UK House of Lords Lord Paul in Islamabad for talks focused on strengthening legal education and advancing reform cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

The session, held at the minister’s office, brought together senior stakeholders to discuss measures for improving academic exchange, institutional capacity, and the adoption of international best practices in the training of lawyers and legal professionals.

Barrister Usama Malik, Director Legal Education Pakistan, joined the delegation and offered technical perspectives on curriculum development, professional standards, and mechanisms to align domestic training with global benchmarks.

Both representatives emphasized the need for resilient legal institutions and noted that educational reform is critical to sustaining rule-of-law objectives and enhancing judicial effectiveness.

Lord Paul acknowledged Pakistan’s recent efforts to bolster its legal framework and reiterated the UK’s readiness to support cooperative projects in policy formulation, capacity building, and cross-border academic programs.

The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to pursue continued dialogue, exchange schemes, and joint initiatives between universities, bar bodies, and public institutions aimed at long-term, sustainable reform.
