The Supreme Court of Pakistan has revoked security provisions for widows of retired judges, clarifying that such protection is exclusively for retired justices themselves. A statement released Tuesday by the nation’s highest court explained that an earlier communication to the Interior Ministry regarding security for retired judges mistakenly included their spouses. This reference, the court stated, was unintentional and has been rescinded because it doesn’t align with Presidential Order No. 7 of 2018.
The Supreme Court confirmed that retired justices retain their lifetime security entitlement as per the 2018 presidential decree and associated regulations. This safeguard, the court stressed, recognizes the delicate nature of their past roles and the persistent security risks linked to their judicial careers.
