Pakistan and China have agreed to bolster their collaboration by broadening partnerships under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), focusing on modern agriculture, technology, minerals, and railway development. Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and Hunan Governor Mao Weiming finalized the agreement during a meeting where they discussed expanding cooperation into these new sectors. Governor Mao approved the formation of a dedicated working group with Hunan Province to expedite CPEC Phase II ventures.

Minister Iqbal underscored Pakistan’s adoption of China’s BeiDou navigation system as a testament to the strong bond between the two nations. He emphasized the system’s importance for industrial advancement and acknowledged Hunan’s significant contribution to China’s economy.

The minister explained that while the initial phase of CPEC concentrated on energy and infrastructure, the second phase prioritizes industrial expansion, modern agriculture, science and technology, mineral resources, and cultural exchanges. He stated, ‘CPEC has already assisted Pakistan in addressing its energy and infrastructure challenges, and Phase II will create new avenues for sustainable progress.’

Governor Mao commended Minister Iqbal’s attendance at the BeiDou Summit, which included representatives from over 20 nations. He viewed the minister’s presence as a symbol of the robust Pakistan-China relationship and pledged full provincial backing for strengthening bilateral ties.
