KMC – Salaries Disbursed Among KMC employees Before 1st of Month for First Time in 25 Years

In a historic and unprecedented development, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) achieved a remarkable milestone by ensuring the disbursement of employee salaries before the 1st of the month – a practice that had been neglected for nearly 25 years.

According to KMC information today, this significant achievement is part of a broader vision to safeguard the rights and welfare of municipal employees, many of whom had long suffered due to delayed salary payments over the past three decades.

For the first time in a generation, thousands of KMC employees are witnessing a long-awaited reform that directly impacts their lives and livelihoods. Timely salary disbursement not only secures the financial stability of employees and their families but also strengthens their trust and morale, thereby boosting the overall efficiency of the municipal workforce.

This landmark initiative has been made possible through the digitalization of KMC’s financial services and the complete streamlining of employee records, replacing outdated manual systems with modern, technology-driven solutions. The transition ensures transparency, accountability, and efficiency in all financial processes.

The vision for this reform was laid down by Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, whose commitment to employee welfare and institutional modernization has been at the heart of this achievement. The initiative has been successfully implemented under the leadership and efforts of S.M. Afzal Zaidi (PAS), Municipal Commissioner, and Gulzar Abro (PAAS), Financial Advisor to KMC, whose dedication to restructuring KMC’s financial systems has been instrumental in realizing this long-overdue goal.

According to KMC spokesperson Daniyal Alishan Siyal, ‘For 25 years, employees of KMC had been deprived of their basic right – the timely payment of their salaries. This is not just a financial reform but a matter of dignity and respect for every municipal worker who serves Karachi with commitment. With the successful digitalization of our systems, we have eliminated inefficiencies and ensured that our employees are paid on time, every time. This is the beginning of a new era for KMC.’

Under the directives of the Mayor, KMC has now embarked on further reforms to strengthen its financial ecosystem. Financial Advisor Gulzar Abro has initiated the process of shifting all other payments – including pensions, vendor payments, and project-related disbursements – to the SAP system, ensuring complete digital integration and minimizing the risks of delays and mismanagement.

This initiative marks a significant shift in the culture of governance within KMC. For decades, delayed salaries were seen as an unavoidable norm, deeply affecting employee morale and efficiency. By breaking away from the past and embracing technology-driven solutions, the current leadership has set a benchmark for other municipal institutions across Pakistan.

KMC’s journey toward modernization reflects its broader vision of becoming a people-centric and employee-friendly institution, ensuring that its workforce is empowered and motivated to serve the city of Karachi with renewed dedication.
