The Supreme Court is poised to address two politically sensitive cases next week that could have significant ramifications, with hearings scheduled for a crucial appeal concerning the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) reserved seats and a separate challenge to alleged election rigging.
According to the court’s official schedule, a plea regarding the allocation of reserved seats for the SIC is slated for an in-chamber session on October 8. The matter will be taken up by Justice Aminuddin Khan. This proceeding stems from a chamber appeal submitted by Senior Advocate Hamid Khan after the Registrar’s Office returned the party’s initial review petition with objections.
A day earlier, on October 7, Justice Aminuddin Khan will also preside over a separate in-chamber hearing for a petition that challenges alleged electoral malpractice and the 26th Constitutional Amendment. This case was originally lodged by a citizen, Ghulam Mohiuddin.
The registrar had initially returned that petition due to technical objections, prompting the petitioner to file the current chamber appeal to have the matter heard by a judge. The outcomes of these preliminary hearings will determine if the petitions proceed to a formal hearing before a larger bench.
