Campaign to Plant One Million Trees Launched in Ghotki District for Environmental Improvement

As a significant step to combat climate change, a campaign to plant one million trees has been launched in Ghotki district. This project has been initiated under the patronage of the District and Sessions Judge Ghotki, with the aim of increasing the green cover of the area.

Deputy Commissioner Ghotki, Manzoor Ahmed Kunrani, and SSP Anwar Khetran inaugurated the campaign by planting neem saplings. This project, in collaboration with the district administration, forest department, and industrial organizations, will be completed in three phases.

Deputy Commissioner Manzoor Ahmed Kunrani emphasized that large-scale tree planting is essential to mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce local temperatures. He highlighted the environmental benefits of forest growth, including pollution control and providing a pleasant environment. In the initial phase, 80,000 eco-friendly trees are being planted, while another 45,000 trees will be distributed to various institutions.

SSP Anwar Khetran reiterated the importance of preserving the beauty of nature and the responsibility to protect these green assets. He mentioned that legal actions are being taken against individuals involved in illegal tree cutting, and the Ghotki police are fully supporting the efforts of the forest department.

Divisional Forest Officer Ziaullah Leghari pointed out the environmental challenges facing Ghotki district, which is a heavily industrialized area and emits a large amount of carbon dioxide. He explained that the solution to this problem has been sought through phased tree plantation. Leghari also mentioned the successful recovery of 14,373 acres of land and the inclusion of previously unrecorded lands into government documents.

The opening ceremony was attended by various officials, including Conservator of Forests Sukkur, Iftikhar Ahmed Arain, and other dignitaries.
