Global Economy – Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb leaves for the US to attend the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has departed for the United States to engage in the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, spearheading a packed six-day visit that includes a demanding schedule of more than sixty-five events and high-level discussions.

During his trip, the finance minister is slated to confer with the senior leadership of both the IMF and the World Bank. His agenda includes a personal meeting with World Bank President Ajay Banga and a separate discussion with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. Mr. Aurangzeb will also attend a dinner for a select group of finance ministers at the special invitation of Mr. Banga.

Representing Pakistan, the minister will participate in the plenary sessions of the global financial institutions and hold talks with officials from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

A key engagement on his itinerary is a regional roundtable organized by the World Bank focusing on the digital transformation of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). This forum will feature FBR officials alongside tax authorities from other nations, who will present their respective tax reforms.

The minister’s diplomatic outreach will extend to bilateral meetings with his counterparts from China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan. Further engagements are planned with top White House officials and the Chairman of the Financial Services Committee of the US Congress.

Discussions are also scheduled with senior officials from the US Departments of State and Treasury, as well as the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). Mr. Aurangzeb is set to address the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (MENAP) forum as a keynote speaker.

To bolster investor confidence, the finance minister will hold talks with representatives from global credit rating agencies and major commercial and investment banks, with a particular focus on institutions from the Middle East.

Mr. Aurangzeb will also present Pakistan”s economic perspective at leading American think tanks, including the Atlantic Council and the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE). His schedule is further rounded out by two significant events organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF), interactions with prominent members of the Pakistani community, and interviews with international and US media outlets.
