Twin Cities Remain Crippled as TLP Protest Shuts Down Roads and Internet for Second Day

A pervasive state of paralysis has gripped Islamabad and Rawalpindi for the second consecutive day, as an ongoing demonstration by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has led to a complete shutdown of daily life, causing immense hardship for residents.

According to media reports, commercial activities throughout the twin cities have ceased, with major markets and businesses shuttered. In a parallel move, all educational institutions remain closed, disrupting the academic calendar amid the tense security situation.

Public transportation has been severely impacted, with the Metro Bus Service staying suspended for a second straight day. Further measures include the sealing of hotels and restaurants situated around the key Faizabad area, a focal point of the protest.

The city’s infrastructure is choked as heightened security measures have resulted in the closure of critical thoroughfares. Key blockades are in place at Faizabad Interchange, Expressway Highway, IJP Road, Khanna Pul, Kuri Road, and the Dhoke Kala Khan routes.

In Rawalpindi, authorities have sealed all entry points from Waris Khan, Committee Chowk, Shamsabad, Shaheen Chowk, Saddar, and the old airport area. The local administration maintains a complete ban on the entry of heavy traffic, and access routes to the airport have been obstructed with shipping containers.

Compounding the predicament for citizens, mobile internet services in both metropolitan areas remain suspended. The available connectivity is reported to be extremely slow, further isolating residents. The extensive road closures have left people struggling to reach essential facilities, including hospitals and markets.
