Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has arrived in Washington for a pivotal six-day visit centered on high-stakes annual meetings with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, signaling a critical phase for Pakistan”s economic diplomacy.
Representing Pakistan, the minister”s agenda includes crucial discussions with top global financial leaders, including IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank President Ajay Banga. These engagements are seen as vital for the nation’s financial future, according to a report today.
Aurangzeb”s itinerary is packed with significant bilateral consultations. He is scheduled to hold talks with his counterparts from key partner nations such as China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan, aiming to bolster economic cooperation.
In addition to financial institutions, the minister”s schedule features meetings with senior White House officials and the Chairman of the Congressional Financial Services Committee, underscoring the diplomatic and political dimensions of his mission.
The finance chief will also deliver a keynote address at the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (MENAP) forum. Furthermore, he is set to participate in a regional roundtable organized by the World Bank focusing on the digital transformation of Pakistan”s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Showcasing Pakistan”s economic potential, Aurangzeb will engage with members of the US-Pakistan Business Council to discuss tax proposals and investment opportunities within the country. He is also slated to attend events organized by the World Economic Forum.
To bolster investor confidence, the minister will meet with officials from global credit rating agencies and various commercial banks, with a special focus on investment banks from the Middle East, to present a comprehensive overview of Pakistan”s economic scenario.
His visit also includes outreach to influential US think tanks, such as the Atlantic Council and the Peterson Institute of International Economics, and engagements with prominent members of the Pakistani diaspora in the United States.
