A new bridge will be constructed on the canal in front of Sahafi Colony Lahore: Minister for Information Punjab

The Government of Punjab has announced a significant infrastructure project for Sahafi Colony, under which a new bridge will be constructed on the adjacent canal to provide permanent relief to residents from constant traffic pressure. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to provide the journalist community with modern and dignified housing.

In a meeting held on Saturday morning, chaired by Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari, several important decisions were made to resolve the long-standing issues of the Journalist Housing Society, Lahore. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of individuals associated with the media.

A central point of the new strategy is the transparent auction of commercial areas within the housing society. This process will be conducted by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) under the supervision of the Punjab Journalist Housing Foundation (PJHF), with the revenue generated helping to accelerate various development projects.

Minister Azma Bokhari emphasized that the LDA, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), and Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) will implement a joint strategy to transform Sahafi Colony into an exemplary residential project. She directed all relevant departments to complete the rehabilitation works within the stipulated timeframe, and stressed the importance of quality and transparency.

“The Government of Punjab is committed to providing the journalist community with dignified, safe, and modern residential facilities,” said Azma Bokhari, directing the LDA to formulate an accountable policy for the fair use of resources.

In addition to the new bridge, WASA was instructed to take immediate steps to activate the colony’s incomplete water link system, which will resolve another basic facility issue for the residents.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Information Tahir Raza Hamdani, DG LDA Tahir Farooq, MD WASA Ghufran Ali, and Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari, besides Adnan Rasheed and Asad Hussain.
