Economic Policy – Pakistan Pledges Major Overhaul to Revitalize Ailing Industrial Sector

The government today committed its full support to resolving critical challenges plaguing the nation’s industrial sector, following a high-level meeting between the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, and key business and diplomatic figures.

The summit, attended by Pakistan”s Ambassador to China and the newly elected Presidents of the Lahore and Gujranwala Chambers of Commerce, addressed pressing matters including difficulties faced by Chinese investors and the promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan affirmed that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the administration is dedicated to reviving industrial momentum and improving the ease of doing business. He highlighted that a new Industrial Policy has been formulated to facilitate industries and ensure the long-term sustainability of the manufacturing domain.

In a significant statement, Pakistan”s Ambassador to China observed a first-of-its-kind alignment among government institutions, policymakers, and investors, all united to accelerate economic progress. Mr. Khan credited this synergy to the vision and efforts of the Prime Minister, which have brought all stakeholders together for the common objective of economic revival.

The immense contribution of smaller businesses was underscored by the President of the Gujranwala Chamber, who noted that the city hosts over 6,000 SMEs, forming a substantial part of Pakistan”s industrial foundation.

Acknowledging their importance, Mr. Khan mentioned the Prime Minister”s special interest in empowering SMEs and enhancing women”s economic participation. He subsequently directed the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to adopt a proactive role in assisting Gujranwala”s SMEs and tackling their operational impediments.

The SAPM concluded the meeting by assuring the delegation of the government”s unwavering support in addressing all industry-related concerns and extended his congratulations to the new presidents of the LCCI and GCCI on their recent elections.
