Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has taken immediate action against the rising prices of tomatoes in the city, which was implemented on Wednesday following a report by Deputy Commissioner East Abrar Jafar. In response to this report, the monitoring system for the auction of tomatoes and other produce at the vegetable market has been expedited to effectively address the issue.
Commissioner Naqvi has appointed Assistant Commissioner Gulzar Hijri, Irfan Nizamani, to oversee operations at the vegetable market. During his visit, Assistant Commissioner Nizamani monitored the auction process in collaboration with the Market Committee and the Bureau of Supply.
In a significant development, the price of first-grade tomatoes has been reduced from Rs. 282 per kg to Rs. 207, while the price of second-grade tomatoes has dropped from Rs. 254 per kg to Rs. 141.
The report also indicated that local tomato production is gradually increasing, which raises hopes for price stabilization in the coming days.
Commissioner Naqvi has issued directives to all Deputy Commissioners to strictly enforce the official prices of tomatoes and other essential commodities.
