Defence – Pakistan and Romania to Enhance Military Cooperation with Joint Drills and Aerospace Partnerships

Pakistan and Romania have agreed to explore defence-industrial partnerships focusing on advanced aerospace technologies and establish formal frameworks for sustained collaboration, marking a significant step in strengthening military ties between the two nations. The development came during an official visit to Romania by the Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations on Wednesday, the Air Chief Marshal met with Lieutenant General Leonard-Gabriel Baraboi, Chief of the Romanian Air Force Staff, to bolster bilateral defence cooperation. Upon his arrival at the Romanian Air Force Headquarters, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu was presented with a Guard of Honour by a contingent of the host nation’s air force.

During extensive discussions, both dignitaries focused on advancing operational cooperation. The talks covered a range of initiatives, including the possibility of conducting joint air exercises, implementing comprehensive training programmes, and facilitating the exchange of both air and ground crew between the two air forces.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional security dynamics, with both leaders reaffirming their dedication to improving cooperation for global and regional stability. Lieutenant General Baraboi commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Air Force, highlighting its recent operational successes. He also expressed appreciation for the PAF’s significant progress in indigenization and technological development under the leadership of Air Chief Marshal Sidhu.

This official trip is being hailed as a major milestone in Pakistan-Romania military relations. It underscores a shared commitment by both countries to peace, development, and strategic cooperation within an evolving global security environment.
