Pakistan Unveils Major Power Tariff Reduction for Industrial and Farm Sectors

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs for the nation’s industrial and agricultural sectors under a new relief initiative, the “Roshan Maeeshat Power Package,” aimed at spurring economic growth and productivity.

The program, unveiled during a meeting with business leaders and experts in the capital, will provide additional electricity to industries and farmers at a heavily discounted rate of 22.98 rupees per unit. This special tariff represents a substantial cut from the current rates of 34 rupees for industrial units and 38 rupees for the agriculture sector.

This three-year incentive scheme is scheduled to be in effect from November 2025 through October 2028. The Prime Minister gave an assurance that the financial relief provided through this package would not place any additional burden on domestic consumers or other economic sectors.

Mr. Sharif emphasized that the advancement of industry and agriculture is vital for the country”s economic expansion and for generating employment opportunities. He stated that the government is implementing all possible measures to improve the ease of doing business and bolster the competitiveness of these essential fields.

Recalling the success of a similar initiative last year, the Prime Minister noted that the industrial and agricultural sectors consumed 410 gigawatts of extra electricity, which led to a boost in production, exports, and employment.

The premier lauded Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for their dedicated efforts in formulating the package. He also commended the government”s economic team for their hard work in overcoming challenges to achieve fiscal stability.

Mr. Sharif expressed confidence that stimulating the agricultural and industrial domains will steer the country towards freedom from debt. He concluded by highlighting that key economic indicators have shown improvement and stressed that national self-sufficiency would be achieved through diligent work.
