Authorities in Punjab have launched a campaign against those spreading environmental pollution, resulting in the arrest of several individuals and the imposition of fines exceeding 1 million rupees within 24 hours. According to a statement issued on Tuesday by IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, 26 new cases were registered against polluters during this operation.
This province-wide campaign targets major sources of air pollution, including the burning of agricultural residue, high-emission vehicles, and substandard brick kilns and industrial activities. Along with arrests and financial penalties, law enforcement agencies also issued dozens of warning notices.
The recent crackdown is part of a continuous campaign ongoing during the current year, in which a total of 2,388 cases have been registered so far. As a result of these actions, 2,106 alleged lawbreakers have been detained and fines of over 230.8 million rupees have been collected.
