Youth Alliance Nasirabad continued its hunger strike for the solution of basic civic issues. The leaders of the Youth Alliance expressed deep disappointment on Tuesday during the hunger strike over the lack of any response from any elected representative or the government, and warned that the protest movement will be expanded if their demands for civic improvement are not met.
The protest camp, held in front of the local post office, was led by Youth Alliance President Sarang Tanio, who was accompanied by prominent members such as Ghulam Nabi Mangi, Mubeen Mangi, and Taufiq Kalhoro to highlight the city’s key unresolved issues.
The protestors demanded immediate action on several fundamental issues, including the completion of the incomplete Taluka Hospital, the reconstruction of the post office, and the completion of Gaji Road. The group also demanded an investigation into the alleged use of substandard materials in the road’s construction.
Further demands include the establishment of a public park at the site of the old Mal Peri in memory of Abdul Sattar Soomro, the construction of boundary walls for all city graveyards, and the installation of protective pitching walls on both sides of the Artar Shakh canal.
In addition to infrastructure, the alliance has also demanded the complete restoration of law and order not only in Nasirabad but throughout the province of Sindh.
The hunger strike received support from various segments of local society. Prominent figures from various political and social organizations, including Asif Kathio of Sajag Shehri Ittehad, Sufi Ghaffar Channa, Ustad Qamaruddin Kalhoro, writer and senior journalist Azad Jabbar Mangi, and Sengar Noonari of Shehri Ittehad, attended the camp to express solidarity.
During the protest, a juice stall featuring a picture of Sufi Ghaffar Channa was removed.
Speaking to the media, the alliance leaders said it was “regrettable” that no government representative had met with them. They affirmed that if their legitimate demands continue to be ignored, the Youth Alliance is prepared to intensify its protest actions.
