The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched the tender process for two significant infrastructure undertakings, committing over PKR 1 billion from its own resources to address chronic road decay and severe traffic congestion in the metropolis.
The municipal body has formally invited bids for the permanent rehabilitation of Jahangir Road, a project that includes the reconstruction of the adjoining stormwater drain. This initiative, aimed at providing a sustainable solution for area commuters and residents, has a financial allocation of PKR 300 million.
In a separate development, a tender has also been floated for the construction of an alternative road at Natha Khan Bridge, a critical point of connectivity. This larger scheme, valued at PKR 780 million, is intended to substantially ease traffic bottlenecks and improve vehicle flow in the vicinity.
According to the KMC, both financial allocations were approved by its council following the completion of all internal formalities and technical evaluations. The funding for both projects is being sourced directly from the corporation”s own funds.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has directed all involved departments to expedite the processes, ensure transparency at every stage, and strictly follow the established completion timelines. He noted that the swift execution of the projects is crucial for enhancing urban mobility and addressing citizen grievances.
‘The people of Karachi deserve reliable infrastructure, and we are committed to delivering it,’ the Mayor stated. ‘These projects reflect our determination to rebuild this city with efficiency, accountability, and long-term planning.’
