Iran has called for the creation of a joint security mechanism and increased intelligence cooperation with Pakistan to counter militant groups operating on their mutual border, a senior Iranian official announced today.
Dr. Ali Larijani, Iran”s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, highlighted the presence of armed factions along the shared border during a briefing with Pakistani media in the capital city.
The senior diplomat also stated that his country is prepared to help de-escalate tensions between the governments in Islamabad and Kabul.
Dr. Larijani voiced optimism that prevailing regional challenges could be settled through the use of rational dialogue.
He described both Pakistan and Iran as influential regional nations, asserting that their roles in the area are complementary to one another.
