New Climate Pact Aims to Shield Pakistan from Floods and Heatwaves

In a significant move to address escalating climate threats, Pakistan and the United Kingdom have formalized a comprehensive partnership aimed at strengthening the nation’s resilience against recurrent floods, extreme heat-waves, and acute water stress.

According to an official information today, the strategic green alliance, named the UK-Pakistan Green Compact, was officially launched in the capital with a signing ceremony attended by key officials. Representing their respective governments, Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Malik and UK Minister for International Development Jennifer Chapman inked the foundational agreement.

The framework prioritizes scaling up nature-based solutions, placing a particular emphasis on the conservation and expansion of mangrove ecosystems. Furthermore, the pact supports Pakistan”s objective to expand its solar and wind generation capabilities, a strategy designed to reduce the country’s long-term reliance on fossil fuels.

This compact translates years of bilateral engagement into a concrete framework for practical delivery on critical environmental challenges.
