A fierce electoral contest is anticipated at the prestigious Karachi Club as two influential panels, the Friends Panel and the Progressive Panel, go head-to-head in the annual elections scheduled for Thursday, 25th December. Members, comprising the city’s elite, are set to cast their ballots throughout the day in what is expected to be a closely watched race.
According to a statement today, spearheading the Friends Panel’s ticket is Mohammad Hanif Lakhani, a distinguished industrialist with a notable history of leadership, having previously served as Vice President of the FPCCI and Senior Vice President of the KCCI. He is contending for the role of president, with Umar Idris Qudwani running for the position of honourary secretary.
Challenging them is the Progressive Panel, which has nominated Mohammad Aslam Rangoonwala for the presidency. Vying for the honourary secretary post from this slate is Abdul Wahid Abdul Qadir Jitel Sarwala, also known as Danny.
Both sides have fielded a full slate of candidates for the 12 available seats on the managing committee.
The Friends Panel’s nominees for the committee include Abdul Hafeez Moti, Ahmad Ali Poonawala, Ali Fayyaz, Anil Jyot Waswani, Ayad Yaqoob Ahmedani, Fayyaz Neni, Mohammad Ashfaq Kalia, Mohammad Rizwan (Jumbo), Mohammad Faisal Barai, Raheel Rizak Sawani, Rizwan Abdul Razak Dewan, and Suleman Rafique Mania.
The Progressive Panel”s contenders for the managing committee are Abdul Salam (Sarmawala), Adnan Sakarani, Adnan Ghori, Ahmad Chekotra (Faizan), Junaid Yusuf Hamdani, Khalid Jan M. Kodiyah (famous as Khalid C.K.), Mohammad Zubair Nagar, Mohammad Kashif Duni, Mustafa Abdul Aziz, Saif Ali Agha, Weshan Gur, and Zeeshan Akbar Ali Merchant.
The polling for the coveted positions will commence on Thursday morning and continue until the evening, allowing the club”s membership to exercise their franchise.
