The spokesperson for the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis announced on Saturday that Pakistan has secured a significant quota of 10,500 jobs from Italy for the next three years, this is the first time a European country has provided such a facility for the country’s workforce.
The official detailed that under this new labor agreement, 3,500 Pakistanis annually until 2028 will be allowed to go to Italy for employment under both seasonal and non-seasonal arrangements.
The annual quota is divided into 1,500 vacancies under the seasonal quota and another 2,000 opportunities in the non-seasonal category.
According to the spokesperson, this development came after a special request made to Italy by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain.
The employment opportunities are for skilled and semi-skilled workers in several key sectors, including shipbuilding, hospitality, health, and agriculture.
Specific roles available for Pakistani citizens include welders, technicians, chefs, waiters, and housekeeping staff, as well as nurses, medical technicians, and agricultural workers.
Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain termed the agreement a “significant milestone” and congratulated the nation. He said, “After long and hard work, the doors of employment in Italy are opening for the Pakistani workforce.”
Mr. Hussain emphasized the broader implications, saying, “This is a significant milestone for Pakistan in exploring new employment opportunities in the European labor market.”
He reiterated the government’s commitment to finding dignified work for its citizens globally. The minister said, “The Government of Pakistan is constantly striving to provide decent employment to its workers globally.”
Praising the expatriates, Mr. Hussain commented, “Overseas Pakistanis are the ambassadors of Pakistan around the world and play the role of the backbone in the country’s economy.”
Looking to the future, the minister expressed hope that “soon, the doors of more European countries will also open for the Pakistani workforce.”
The ministry also confirmed that the second meeting of the joint working group between Pakistan and Italy to further promote bilateral cooperation is scheduled to be held in Islamabad in February 2026.
