KARACHI: Businessmen Panel Progressive (BMPP) Secretary General and former Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), Khurram Ejaz, has voiced concerns over the Federal Board of Revenue's (FBR) move to scrutinize export income. He labeled the decision as discouraging for exporters.
In a statement, Ejaz called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Commerce Minister Jam Kamal to halt the FBR circular issued on December 30, 2025. He suggested that halting this measure could alleviate the growing anxiety among exporters.
Ejaz warned that the FBR's actions could undermine the prime minister's "Uraan Pakistan" vision, a plan focused on boosting exports to strengthen the economy. He emphasized the difficulty of achieving national targets without promoting exports.
He highlighted the critical role exporters play in sustaining the national economy. Instead of receiving support, he argued, they are being targeted, which could lead to many abandoning the business. This situation might also deter potential investors from entering the sector.
Ejaz pointed out the broader challenges faced by the industry, including heavy taxation and rising electricity and gas tariffs, which have driven production costs to unsustainable levels. He noted the difficulty of establishing new industries and the struggle to maintain existing ones.
Khurram Ejaz emphasized that punitive policies towards exporters could harm the country's export potential and erode investor confidence, ultimately affecting Pakistan's economic growth.
