Mirpur’s situation worsens, development work suspended, people’s lives have become miserable::Former Transport Minister of Azad Kashmir

Former Transport Minister Muhammad Tahir Khokhar has warned that the complete halt of development activities has brought Mirpur to the brink of a crisis, and said that this stagnation is causing severe difficulties for the public and threatens to plunge the state into administrative chaos.

Khokhar, the central president of Pasban-e-Watan Pakistan, said in a conversation on Sunday that the city’s situation has deteriorated drastically. He pointed out that basic infrastructure, including roads, water, and electricity supply, as well as the health and education sectors, are being severely affected.

The former minister condemned the reliance on the ‘old system of temporary schemes,’ which he said was incapable of solving the state’s fundamental problems. He stressed that this outdated method leads to the inefficient use of resources and creates a constant threat of instability.

‘The time has come to abandon reliance on the old system,’ Khokhar said, calling for the development of a comprehensive, practical, and future-oriented plan. He emphasized that such a strategy is essential to provide immediate and long-lasting facilities to the public and to address today’s challenges while planning for the future.

He demanded that immediate development projects be initiated in Mirpur to provide basic facilities to the residents. Furthermore, Khokhar advocated for the adoption of modern technology and digital systems to monitor the progress of these projects, ensuring transparency and effectiveness.

Further elaborating on his concerns, the former minister said that the entire country is in dire need of modern planning. ‘Development and prosperity in the country are possible not just through government claims but through practical measures, a clear strategy, and effective planning,’ he remarked.

Khokhar concluded with the stern warning that repeated chaos harms both the state and its people. He urged the adoption of a solid strategy to solve public problems, stating that without a forward-looking system, it is the citizens of the state who will ultimately suffer.
