The construction work on Badah Road was halted by a citizens’ alliance and local residents, who alleged the use of substandard material and claimed they were subjected to threats and abuse by the contractor.
Leaders of the Sajag Shehri Ittehad physically stopped the ongoing project on Saturday with the help of area residents, insisting that the work was substandard.
Speaking on the occasion, alliance representatives Muhammad Rafi Laghari, Asif Kathio, and Sufi Ghaffar Chani said that the contractor is installing inferior quality paver blocks. They added that the project lacks a proper system for road drainage and leveling, and termed the situation a “gross injustice” to the local population.
The group demanded that the responsible authorities intervene and correct the road’s drainage and leveling.
They stressed the need to install durable paver blocks, pointing out that this thoroughfare is frequently used by lorries, tractors, and other heavy vehicles.
The protest was also attended by Team Junior members Muhammad Ibrahim Chandio and Imdad Chandio, as well as Haji Aziz Kalhoro and social activist Sain Anwar Shah, who supported the demand for high-quality construction.
