Protest over non-arrest of suspects in school theft, protesters stage sit-in at police station

Public unrest grew in Nasirabad as citizens, teachers, and students staged a sit-in for the fourth time inside the local police station on Tuesday against the authorities’ failure to resolve a theft that occurred at a government primary school eight days ago.

Held on the call of the Citizens’ Alliance, the demonstration began as a rally from the Government Boys’ Main Primary School, the scene of the crime. The procession culminated in a sit-in on the police station premises, which was attended by a large number of the city’s political and social organizations.

Leading the protest, figures such as Comrade Sengar Noonari, Zahid Tunio, Yasin Ali Phulpoto, and Zamir Hussain Mugheri addressed the gathering. In their speeches, they described the police’s failure to recover the stolen goods or apprehend the culprits, despite more than a week having passed, as regrettable and condemnable.

The leaders highlighted that despite repeated protests, the Station House Officer (SHO) is on leave and no district official has presented themselves to engage with the concerned citizens.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Qambar Shahdadkot and the elected representatives of the area were also criticized, accused of having taken no notice of the incident.

The protesters have vowed to continue their protest until the school’s stolen goods are returned and those responsible are arrested. The Citizens’ Alliance has also called an emergency meeting to formulate a strategy for future protests.
