Political and social activists staged a rally from Public Park to the SSP office in Thatta on Thursday, demanding the dismissal of the Makli Station House Officer (SHO), whom they accused of releasing an armed suspect and threatening the complainant.
The protest was organized by the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (STP) following an attack two days prior, in which Asad Qureshi, the young son of political and social leader Ghani Qureshi, was fired upon.
The protesters alleged that when the young man’s uncle, STP leader Raju Qureshi, went to the Makli police station to register a case, the SHO unlawfully arrested and mistreated him.
Protest leaders further claimed that SHO Nahri had apprehended an attacker with a weapon but later released the individual. They said this “police brutality” has created a sense of insecurity among citizens and political workers.
The rally, which saw a large number of workers from various political, social, and civil organizations, started from Public Park Makli. It was led by STP Thatta District President Syed Jalal Shah, Raju Qureshi, AAPKA leader Sajjad Samoon, Ahmed Nawaz Pathan, and other community figures.
The participants, chanting strong slogans, marched to the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Thatta and staged a sit-in.
The protesters demanded that immediate action be taken against the SHO, that he be removed from his post, and that the suspects who attacked Asad Ali Qureshi be arrested.
