The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) has finalised comprehensive contingency plans, including the formation of emergency response teams, to prevent power disruptions across Lahore during the city’s Basant festival, scheduled from February 06 to 08, 2026.

According to a statement on Friday, following directives from DMD (ADand M), Engr. Rasheed A. Bhutto, the NGC has placed its emergency crews on high alert. These teams will be fully prepared and available round the clock throughout the festivities to address any technical issues that may arise.

The organisation has guaranteed the continuous availability of technical personnel, vehicles, and essential safety equipment. In a proactive measure, transmission lines and grid stations within the Lahore region will be under close surveillance to facilitate a swift response to any untoward incident.

Managing Director of NGC, Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, noted that the Punjab Government has sanctioned the Basant celebrations under stringent rules and regulations. He described the festival as an occasion for joy and recreation.

Engr. Malik issued an appeal to the public, urging residents to strictly adhere to the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to protect their lives, property, and critical national assets. He specifically asked citizens to refrain from any activity that could potentially damage the power transmission system or its associated grid stations.

He further gave his assurance that the National Grid Company is committed to maintaining an uninterrupted electricity supply for Lahore and its surrounding areas during the celebration period. The public is strongly encouraged to prioritise the safety of themselves and others and to ensure the protection of national installations while celebrating.
