Joint Operation Planned to Clear Key City Arteries of Encroachments and Gridlock

City authorities have resolved to launch a coordinated operation to remove illegal encroachments and alleviate severe traffic congestion on major thoroughfares, following a high-level meeting focused on Karachi”s pressing civic issues.

According to an official report today, the decision was reached during a significant summit chaired by Secretary General Administration (SGA and CD) Muhammad Ali Khoso, which brought together officials from the Traffic Police, Deputy Commissioner South, the Solid Waste Management Board, and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. The assembly conducted a detailed review of the persistent problems plaguing roads around the Sindh Secretariat, specifically naming Hashim Ghazdar Road, Hussain Hidayatullah Road, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, and Kemal Atatrk Road.

Participants deliberated on the multifaceted challenges, including unauthorised structures, constant traffic snarls, illegal parking, and inadequate sanitation on these vital routes. A consensus was formed to initiate effective, joint actions to reclaim roads and footpaths, enhance traffic management, and curtail unlawful parking to ensure smoother vehicular movement and public convenience.

During the session, the Traffic Police presented proposals to address specific congestion points, while the district administration highlighted the necessity of joint operations to clear public spaces.

In his directives, Muhammad Ali Khoso instructed the Solid Waste Management authorities to intensify cleaning operations and maintain regular monitoring on the principal roads. He also underscored the importance of introducing plantation and beautification schemes to improve the urban landscape and the city”s overall appearance.

The meeting affirmed that these initiatives are being carried out under the direct supervision of Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah. The overarching goal is to deliver sustainable enhancements in traffic flow, cleanliness, and civic administration for the welfare of Karachi’s residents.
