Two sisters from Naushahro Feroze, Ms. Nadia and Ms. Sofia, have alleged that a police officer and several other individuals forcibly abducted their brother from their home for rejecting a forced marriage proposal and subsequently seeking protection from the court.
Addressing the media after a demonstration at the local press club on Wednesday, Ms. Nadia and Ms. Sofia, supported by members of the Khaskheli community, declared that their only “crime was to refuse a forced marriage in exchange for their sister-in-law.”
The women alleged that their decision to approach the courts and media for help led to a violent raid on their home. They identified one of the accused as police officer Zafar, who they claim, along with other constables and influential citizens, stormed their residence in the village of Fateh Muhammad Khaskheli.
“They violated the sanctity of our home and its four walls and arrested our brother, Liaquat Ali, without justification,” the sisters stated, adding that they were also subjected to violence during the incident.
Following the abduction, the sisters went to the Mehraabpur police station to locate their brother but he was not there. They further alleged that the Station House Officer, Ashfaq Shar, refused to meet them, reinforcing their belief that the police force was colluding with their opponents due to the involvement of officer Zafar.
The sisters expressed grave concerns for their brother’s safety, fearing he could be implicated in false cases or subjected to severe physical harm, colloquially known as being “half-fried.”
Issuing a direct appeal through the media, they called upon senior officials, including SSP Naushahro Feroze Mir Rohail Khoso, DIG Shaheed Benazirabad, IG Sindh Police, and the higher judiciary, to intervene and provide justice.
They concluded with a stark warning that if their plea is ignored and justice is not served, they “will be forced to take some extreme step.”
