President Asif Ali Zardari today accused certain neighbouring countries of being “partners in crime” by allowing terrorist elements to operate from their soil against Pakistan, in the wake of a recent terror incident in the capital.
In a statement, the President asserted that some nations not only finance these groups directly but also provide them with technical and military means, a reality he claims has shaped regional developments in recent years.
Mr Zardari specifically condemned the situation in Afghanistan, stating the Taliban regime has created conditions “similar to or worse than pre-9/11,” which he said posed threats to global peace.
He further alleged that Pakistan’s “eastern neighbour is assisting the Taliban regime” and in doing so is threatening not only Pakistan but also regional and global peace.
The President underlined that Pakistan has long maintained that terrorism cannot be confronted by a single country in isolation, observing that when terrorist groups are allowed space or impunity beyond national borders, the consequences are borne by innocent civilians worldwide.
His remarks came as he thanked global leaders, governments, and international organisations for their solidarity with Pakistan following the attack, stating the nation was “humbled by the strong and sincere outpouring of support.”
President Zardari conveyed that the messages of sympathy and solidarity have brought comfort to the people of Pakistan and strength to the grieving families.
He said these messages reaffirm that the fight against terrorism and its violent ideology is a shared global responsibility and a common struggle for all.
The President concluded by saying that the solidarity shown by the international community strengthens Pakistan”s resolve to continue working with partners for peace, stability, and a decisive end to terrorism in all its forms.
