Injured robber arrested in Okara by firing of accomplices, 2 suspects escape

A police chase in Okara late Sunday and Monday night ended in a heavy exchange of fire, resulting in one alleged robber being injured by his own accomplices’ gunfire and arrested, while two others managed to escape.

The incident began when three armed men allegedly snatched a motorcycle and cash from a citizen at gunpoint at Depalpur Chowk.

Upon receiving the information, Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Ghulam Rasool of B-Division police station, along with his team, immediately pursued the suspects.

The encounter took place near the Catholic Church on Shamsia Colony Road, where the armed men allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the approaching police vehicle. The law enforcement personnel returned fire in self-defense.

During the exchange of fire, one suspect, identified as Abdul Rehman alias Mani, was injured by bullets fired from his accomplices’ weapons. He was arrested by the authorities in an injured state.

Authorities say that Rehman is allegedly involved in at least eight other serious crimes, including robbery and dacoity.

A weapon and a motorcycle were recovered from his possession, which had been forcibly snatched from a resident of Samadpura last night.

A heavy contingent of police has cordoned off the area. A comprehensive search operation is underway to find and apprehend the two escaped accomplices.
