Countrywide rail service suspended due to goods train derailment at Deparja crossing near Mehrabpur

The country’s railway network has been severely disrupted after a freight train derailed near Mehrabpur on Monday, causing a complete blockage of both the up and down main tracks and bringing train services to a standstill.

The incident occurred at the Deparja crossing in Naushahro Feroze district, affecting ten bogies of the goods train. Railway police officials in Padidan confirmed that more than five wagons overturned, while others derailed.

At the time of the accident, the train was traveling from Karachi towards Punjab.

In response to the track closure, the railway administration has dispatched a relief train from Rohri to the accident site.

Officials estimate that the operation to clear and restore the line could take eight to ten hours.

Consequently, all rail traffic on the affected route has been suspended, and trains on both the up and down sides have been halted at various stations until the track is reopened.
