The Excise Department Sindh and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) seized 117 packets of illegal cigarettes without the mandatory tax stamps during operations in various parts of the city on Tuesday.
This joint operation was conducted by the Excise and Taxation department team in collaboration with the district administration as part of the government’s campaign against smuggled goods. The team was led by Excise and Taxation Officer Naeemullah Ghoto, Mukhtiarkar Hussain Ahmed Akro, and Assistant Mukhtiarkar Shiraz Phulpoto.
During the raids, Excise officers Muzaffar Malah and Surayya Sohag, among other personnel, targeted several locations. The violating tobacco products were recovered and seized from areas including Maryam Top Chowk, Shell Pump, Jilani Muhalla, Naya Goth, Kachehri Road, and Seedha Goth.
According to departmental officials, the action was taken on the directives of the Chief Secretary Sindh, Secretary Excise Department Sindh, and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Its stated purpose is to curb the activities of elements causing financial loss to the national exchequer.
This federal and provincial campaign aims to make the country’s tax system more effective and robust.
In a separate development, the Khairpur district administration has announced the hosting of an awareness seminar on the occasion of the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, sponsored by the United Nations.
The event will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 9:30 AM in Sachal Auditorium.
Senior officials from more than 35 government departments, including Police, Rangers, Education, Health, and Social Welfare, are expected to participate. Representatives from various social organizations and other relevant bodies will also attend the seminar.
