Sindh’s Home Minister, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, issued a stern warning today that any element challenging the law will be “brought to their end,” stressing that our province is hell for terrorists and will not be allowed to become a safe haven for them under any circumstances. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting convened to review the overall law and order situation and enhance counter-terrorism strategies.
The minister emphasized that terrorism is the “biggest weapon against humanity” and reiterated the commitment to uphold the writ of the state at all costs.
To bolster provincial security, the minister directed the immediate establishment of joint, round-the-clock check posts, comprising personnel from relevant agencies, at all entry and exit points of Sindh.
Furthermore, he announced that a modern drone surveillance system would soon be launched in Karachi as part of the Safe City Project, aimed at making the city’s surveillance system more effective.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was directed to play a more active role against the online sale of illegal software and illicit weapons. A separate, severe crackdown was ordered against scrap dealers and individuals involved in the trade of stolen mobile phones, with the minister stating that patronage of such criminal activities will not be tolerated.
Regarding undocumented foreign immigrants, particularly Afghan nationals, the Home Minister issued clear directives for their immediate and legal deportation, declaring any delay or excuse unacceptable.
During his briefing, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho reported a significant decrease in vehicle theft and snatching incidents compared to the previous year. He acknowledged that while street crimes have also decreased, they currently pose the “biggest challenge,” leading to the adoption of a special strategy to tackle them.
The Inspector General also briefed the meeting on successes against organized crime, stating that most extortion cases have been resolved and major drug mafias are being systematically dismantled, with their properties being sealed. He highlighted that the morale of the armed forces and Sindh Police is high.
The meeting concluded with the Home Minister’s reiteration of the commitment that all state institutions will cooperate to ensure the rule of law, and no compromise will be made on the peace, stability, and protection of citizens in Sindh.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials including the Sindh Home Secretary, IG Sindh, and representatives from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, Rangers, FIA, Excise, Narcotics, and Customs.
