The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) today issued an urgent warning about potential weather-related hazards, including the risk of flash floods, in various regions of the country until the 24th of this month.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, the NDMA has highlighted the risk of flash floods in the Shamshal, Hunza, Chapursan, Khilik, Shigar, Shiewak, and Hoshe rivers, which may affect the districts of Hunza, Shigar, and Ghanche.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, dangerous water levels may be encountered in the Jhelum, Neelum, Poonch, Mahl, Baitar Nala, Bhimber Nala, Kunshi River, and the tributaries of Jhelum and Poonch.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there is a risk of flooding in the local rivers of Chitral, Kabul, Swat, and Panjkora, as well as in the local streams of Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Mansehra, Buner, and Swabi.
In Punjab, potential flooding is expected in the hill torrents of D.G. Khan, Soan River, Potohar region, and the rain-fed streams and rivers of northeastern Balochistan.
Urban flooding may occur in the cities of Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Khushab, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Lahore, Okara, Chakwal, and Attock.
The NDMA has instructed district administrations to closely monitor rivers and streams, immediately deploy relief teams, and implement safety measures in vulnerable areas.
Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel in sensitive and hilly areas for their safety.
