The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has established a dedicated, free-of-charge market at Baradari for the traders and shopkeepers affected by the Gul Plaza incident, announced Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab during a visit to the site.
During an inspection of various stalls and interactions with traders, the mayor today affirmed the city’s commitment to their rehabilitation. “We stand with the affected shopkeepers and traders; arrangements have also been made for their businesses in various markets across the city,” he said.
Mayor Wahab highlighted that this dedicated location has been provided as a comprehensive relief measure. “The KMC has established this special market with all facilities, free of charge,” he confirmed.
The mayor expressed satisfaction with the public’s response to the new setup, describing the citizens’ participation as a sign of civic solidarity. “I am pleased to see the crowd of citizens, which shows that the people of Karachi have embraced these traders and have come to support them,” he said.
Logistical support has also been provided for the market’s operations. “We have arranged parking for the shopkeepers and shoppers; the Pearl Continental Hotel is also ready to provide other facilities,” Wahab detailed.
Concluding his remarks, the mayor emphasized the economic importance of the affected business community, vowing they would not be left alone. “These traders have a major role in the development of this city; they cannot be left alone in this hour of difficulty,” he said.
