An intelligence-based operation in Karachi has thwarted a major drug smuggling operation, leading to sensational revelations that senior officials of the Sindh government are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), a joint operation conducted in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area resulted in the arrest of two suspects believed to be part of an inter-provincial gang.
Authorities recovered 83 kilograms of high-quality hashish from the suspects’ possession. The estimated value of the seized narcotics is millions of rupees.
A spokesperson for the Sindh Rangers stated that the individuals belong to an organized criminal group. The network’s kingpin allegedly manages the transportation of contraband from Peshawar to Sukkur, from where it is systematically distributed to dealers across Karachi.
The arrested suspects, who were operating under the instructions of a handler, were allegedly responsible for logistical movements within the city. They were intercepted while attempting to transport a shipment of narcotics to a secret storage facility via a high-roof van.
Further investigation revealed that the group has a history of smuggling large quantities of drugs into the city. It was also reported that another associate linked to the same network is already incarcerated.
Law enforcement agencies have appealed to the public to report any information about suspicious elements to the nearest Rangers check post, the Rangers helpline 1101, or the Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp number 03479001111 to help prevent crime. The identity of informants will be kept confidential.
