Societal progress conditional on opportunities for women in decision-making, says Pakistani delegate at UN forum

The sustainable development of any society depends on providing women with equal opportunities in education, health, employment, and decision-making, the head of the Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women told a United Nations forum.

In an official statement issued today, it was stated that the Commission’s Chairperson, Ms. Kiran Baloch, made these remarks while representing both Balochistan and Pakistan at the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, held in New York. She outlined the work underway in the province to empower women and advance gender equality.

The international session was attended by a diverse gathering of government representatives, policymakers, experts, and members of civil society from around the world. The forum’s agenda focused on key issues concerning women’s rights, their role in socio-economic development, and the promotion of gender equality.

In her address, Ms. Baloch detailed the measures being implemented in Balochistan to protect women’s rights, ensure their well-being, and facilitate their economic and social progress. She emphasized that the development and empowerment of women plays a fundamental role in overall societal progress.

The Chairperson said that participation in such global forums provides a valuable opportunity to learn from the experiences of other countries and helps in formulating joint strategies for the protection of women’s rights.
