The government today successfully distributed payments to 89 percent of beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Ramzan Relief Package 2026, it was announced during a high-level review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday.
During the briefing in the capital, the prime minister directed that all future payments under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) must also be disbursed through Social Protection Wallets, a move aimed at enhancing financial transparency.
Mr Sharif commended the relevant institutions for ensuring the transparent allocation of funds to deserving individuals. He described the Social Protection Wallets as a “significant milestone” and a successful initiative in advancing financial technology within Pakistan.
Officials apprised the meeting that, to date, 1,955,620 digital transactions have been processed as part of the relief package, underscoring the scale of the digital payment operation.
A comprehensive awareness campaign is being conducted to support the package, with beneficiaries receiving complete information through print, electronic, and social media platforms to ensure widespread reach.
Public engagement has been substantial, with a dedicated helpline on 9999 receiving 1.7 million calls. Additionally, 2.7 million SMS messages have been dispatched to provide information regarding the programme.
The briefing also highlighted a key social outcome, noting that the Social Protection Wallets have proven highly effective in reducing the gender gap in access to digital financial systems across the country.
