In a major upset at the Aptasia Championship, Pakistan’s Noor Zaman, ranked 31st in the world, defeated world number 14 Lionel Cardenas of Mexico to enter the quarterfinals.
The second round match ended decisively in Zaman’s favor with a score line of 3-0, according to a statement issued by the Squash Federation today. The Pakistani player won the match with a game score of 11-7, 11-5 and 11-7 in 32 minutes.
This triumph marks a notable progression for Zaman in the prestigious Gold Event, which is being held in England from the 24th to the 29th of March and features a total prize fund of 130,000 USD.
A formidable challenge now awaits Zaman in the quarter-final match, where he is set to face the tournament”s top-seeded Peruvian player and World No. 3, Diego Elias.
